ROANOKE - At a special Roanoke-Benson District 60 school board meeting on Dec. 12, Tom Welsh was hired as Superintendent and Sowers Elementary Principal, effective July 1, 2019. He will replace Rohn Peterson, who will retire on June 30. Welsh was selected from a pool of three candidates.

“I am honored and excited to be chosen as Roanoke-Benson's next superintendent of schools,” Welsh said. “Roanoke-Benson has earned an outstanding reputation in Central Illinois as a tremendous school district providing students an excellent education. Roanoke-Benson is a community that wants the very best for its students, which is evidenced by their commitment to the school district.”

Welsh graduated from Bradley University in Peoria with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Educational Administration and earned his Superintendent Certification from Western Illinois University in Macomb. He has taught at various schools through Peoria District 150 and also at the high school level in Chillicothe (Illinois Valley Central), Dunlap and Decatur St. Teresa. Presently, he is employed by District 150 as an executive director of high schools.
