ROANOKE - Codee McClure has always loved being around animals. The youngest of four children to Jeff and Marilyn McClure, she grew up on the family farm located a mile south of town with plenty of dogs and livestock around her—which is exactly how she likes it.
The recent Roanoke-Benson graduate operates Leash & Halter, which opened in 2017 and offers dog boarding and in-home pet care. The younger McClure decided to open Leash & Halter after she worked at a dog boarding place and got the desire to create her own. She also does in-home pet care for people who would rather have their animals remain at home. This service is especially nice for people who also have livestock, as farm chores often make it hard for people to get away.
“I was raised on a farm with livestock, so I really like the livestock part of it,” she said. “I love going and meeting new people and seeing their set-up for their animals. Everybody raises their animals differently, so that’s always really cool to go and see.”

In addition, McClure also raised rabbits in both 4-H and the Future Farmers of America (FFA).
