ROANOKE - Problems with sanitary sewer backup were addressed by the village board at its regular meeting on Monday night. Resident Brian Shirey told the board during the most recent high water event the sanitary sewer backed up into his basement and contributed up to $30,000 in damages.

“I am hoping something can be done so it does not happen again,” Shirey said. “I’m not expecting anything to be done by the next meeting or even in the next year. I’d just like to see a plan.”

Shirey acknowledged the flooding was severe, as it affected 24 residents as well as storm sewers were overwhelmed, but he felt the sanitary sewer should not be backing up. He added he plans to install valves to prevent problems in the future, but feels the sewer line needs improvement.
