ROANOKE - At Monday's meeting, the board approved a proposal to purchase a “Thin Blue Line” flag outside village hall in support of police and the work they do.
“This is a topic that’s dear to my heart,” said board president Mike Smith, who added police officers face danger daily and are in constant danger of being killed. “It shows support for the work they do in our community and the nation.”
The Thin Blue Line is a phrase used by police to refer figuratively to the position of law enforcement in society as a line drawn between criminals and the potential victims of crime.
Smith inquired for the board's permission to fly the flag in place of the state one outside village hall since the bicentennial year just ended.
