EUREKA - At Monday evening's meeting, the District 140 school board heard how the Theatre Honor Society programs are expanding students’ exposure to the arts.
“The middle school drama program continues to grow every year. In our first year, we had 12 students and this year, we have 38 students participating,” said program director Kelleen Nitsch. “The high school program has been running for a year and a half and we will induct four or five new members at the end of the school year, bringing our member total to 17.”
To be inducted into the Honor society troupes, students must obtain a proper grade point average (GPA), have no disciplinary issues, serve as a leader in the community and participate in at least 100 hours of theatre service onstage and backstage on an annual basis.
