SECOR – Arthur L. Wilkey, 89, died at 2:35 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, at the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke.
He was born June 9, 1929, in Bloomington, the son of Virgil and Irene Holt Wilkey. He married Carolyn Woosley on Nov. 11, 1951, in Secor. She died March 10, 2015.
Survivors include four daughters, Dawn (Dewey) Yates, Paulette (Sue Bowling) Wilkey, Connie Duffy and Teresa (Don) Middleton; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, George (Ella B) Wilkey and Charles (Rose) Wilkey and two sisters, Wanda Wilkey and Pam Wilkey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, six sisters and one granddaughter.
Art served in the Army National Guard as a tank mechanic overseas in Korea during the Korean conflict. He owned/operated Roanoke Milling Co. in Roanoke for 46 years before he retired in 2012. Art was a charter member of the Secor United Methodist Church, Roanoke American Legion Post No. 463, Roanoke Rotary, where he served as secretary, Roanoke Business Association and helped create the Secor Sportsman’s Club. He also served his community as supervisor of Palestine Township and a volunteer on the El Paso and Secor Fire Departments for 40 years.
Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home, Roanoke, with the Rev. Robert Herath officiating. Visitation will take place Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Secor Cemetery, Secor.
