EUREKA – David J. Underwood, 69, died at 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at the Sharon Elms in Peoria.
He was born May 15, 1950, in Galesburg, the son of Leroy Jene and Emily Elliott Underwood. He married Phylis Hon on June 17, 1972, in Cordova, Md. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Andrew (Nicole) Underwood, Eureka and Alex (Dion) Underwood, Tucson, Ariz.; one daughter, Sarah (Shane) Phillips, Bloomington; four grandchildren; two brothers, Jon (Shawn) Underwood and Dana (Jackie) Underwood, both of Galesburg; mother-in-law, Margaret Hon, Eureka; brother-in-law, Michael (Charlene) Hon, Bellevue, Neb.; one aunt, Diane Eiermann, Eureka; one uncle, Lyle (Gayle) Elliott, Niles and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dave served in the Army from 1969 to 1972. He worked for Quality Metal Products in Peoria for 36 years as a machinist and later as a quality manager before he retired on July 1, 2013. Dave loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fly fishing and the yearly trips to Siren, Wis., with close friends and he loved to travel. Dave will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, where military rites will be conducted, and with the Rev. Doug Hicks officiating. Visitation will take place Wednesday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Eureka. Cremation rites will be accorded after the service.
