EUREKA – Emerson Roy Bill, 90, died at 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018, at The Loft in Eureka.
He was born Nov. 15, 1928, in Minonk, the son of Ben and Emma Wyss Bill. He married Goldie M. Hilliard on Dec. 30, 1949, in Lowpoint. She survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Jeff (Virginia) Bill, Mooresville, N.C., Kenneth (Brenda) Bill, Roanoke, Brian (Andrea) Bill, Eureka and Douglas Bill, Lowpoint; one daughter, Sheryl (Todd) Bill-Mayo, Franklin, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Andrew (Amy) Bill, Caleb Bill, Brandon Bill, Erin Bill, Danielle Bill and Alex Bill and two great-grandchildren, Lily Bill and Max Bill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, infant twin daughters, three brothers and five sisters.
Emerson served in the Army during the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1954. He graduated Eureka College in 1958. Emerson was a teacher at Lowpoint-Washburn Junior/Senior High School for 31 years before he retired in 1988. He was a member of the Faith Evangelical Free Church in Metamora, where he served as an elder, Washburn Christian Church, Washburn, where he served as a deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher, former president of the Washburn Lion’s Club, Sigma Zeta Honorary Science Fraternity, L-W Education Association and former chair of the Woodford County Retired Teachers Association. Emerson was a Cub Scout Master in Bloomington and Washburn.
Services will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at the Faith Evangelical Free Church with Dan Leman officiating. Visitation was yesterday at Mason Funeral Home in Metamora and this morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church. Burial will follow the service in Linn-Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Washburn, where military rites will be conducted.
