EUREKA – Jerry McElyea, 81, died Tuesday, June 4, 2019, in the emergency room of Advocate Eureka Hospital in Eureka.
He was born March 26, 1938, in Peoria, the son of Everett and Velma Jordan McElyea. He married Marilyn Little Wernsman on Feb. 15, 1992, in Eureka. She died Feb. 18, 2006.
Survivors include two sisters, Marilyn Schoppenhorst of the state of Florida and Marlis Hatton of the state of Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Jerry served in the Army from 1961 to 1963 before he was honorably discharged. He worked at Hiram Walker & Sons Distillery in Peoria for 22 years, as a crossing guard at Davenport Elementary and as a part-time driver with Mangold Ford, both in Eureka. Jerry was a member of the Eureka Christian Church, Eureka, and a lifelong member of the Woodford County Historical Society in Eureka. He was also active with the Eureka Garden Club, Peoria Astronomical Society, Taylor Lodge No. 98 AF & AM in Washington, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria and the Peoria Mohammed Shriners.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will take place Sunday at 7 p.m. at the church. There will be no visitation. A time of fellowship will be held after the service at the church. Burial will be held in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria at a later date. Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington is in charge of the arrangements.
