EUREKA – Joseph L. DeGroot, 95, died Thursday, June 6, 2019, in Carmel, Ind.
He was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Little Chute, Wis., the son of Henry and Agnes Janssen DeGroot. He married Shirley Kesler in 1946. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Becky Irons; one son, Jeff (Rebecca) DeGroot; two grandchildren, Kate (Jason) Parrish and Sonnie Irons; two great-grandchildren, Alaynah Campbell and Camilla Morris; five brothers, Roger (Mary) DeGroot, Vin DeGroot, Don (Laurie) DeGroot, Gerald (Pauline) DeGroot and Tim (Cherrie) DeGroot, and one sister, Doris Barron.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Florian “Chubb” DeGroot, and one sister, Margaret Rossmeissl.
Joe graduated from St. John High School, Little Chute, in 1942. Following graduation, he enlisted and served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS LST 694 during World War II until 1946. He worked for Caterpillar from 1946 to 1950 before he was recalled to duty in Korea aboard the USS Diphda AKA-59 from 1950 to 1952. Following his service, Joe returned to Caterpillar and worked until he retired Jan. 1, 1983.
Services were held in Olio Township Cemetery, Eureka. Flanner Buchanan Cremation Burial, Carmel, was in charge of the arrangements.
