ROANOKE – Lila R. Decker 86, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at Snyder Village in Metamora.
She was born Sept. 29, 1932, in Roanoke, the daughter of Samuel and Ida Rechkemmer Fischer. She married Wayne W. Decker on June 10, 1951, in Minonk. He died Nov. 21, 2006.
Survivors include four daughters, Connie (Fred) Meyer, Eureka, Joyce (Joe) Fever, Oreana, Jeanne (Dave) Daraban, Smithville, Mo., and Jayne (Mark) Frerichs, Roanoke; two sons, James “Jim” Decker and Tony (Lynn) Decker, both of Roanoke; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and two sisters: Laverne (Albert) Butikofer, Elgin, Iowa, and Velda Fisher, Aurora.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Ann Freesmeyer and five brothers, Marvin Fischer, Wilmer Fischer, Lester Fischer, Gerald Fischer and Richard Fischer.
Lila was affectionately known around town as the “Water Lady” as she helped to deliver water to the local farmers for Decker Water Service. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Roanoke, where she filled several different roles. Lila was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her home was always open to all that needed a place to call home.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Bruce Scarbeary officiating. Visitation will take place Saturday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow the service in Roanoke Township Cemetery, Roanoke. Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the church or to the Sowers Elementary School Parent Organization.
