ROANOKE – Mardell L. Bowald, 96, died at 4:33 a.m., Monday, March 11, 2019, at the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke.
She was born July 14, 1922, in Roanoke, the daughter of Elmer and Marie Sutter Blunier. She married Richard L. Bowald on Oct. 7, 1945, in Roanoke. He died Oct. 7, 2006.
Survivors include five daughters, Donna (Brent) Pflederer, Morton, Marj (Larry) Moritz, Naples, Fla., Peggy (Howard) Bessette, Earlville, Bev (Douglas) Miller, Mackinaw and Lori (Vic) Zimmerman, Monticello; 11 grandchildren, Erika Pflederer, Tara (Rich) Ross, Lisa (Joe) Miller, Terry (Heather) Moritz, Casey (Natalie) Klaus, Amanda (Paul) Hahn, Tyler Miller, Evan Miller, Luke Zimmerman Ryan Zimmerman and Noah Zimmerman; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wilmer Blunier, Roanoke and Robert Blunier, Murphy, N.C., and four sisters, Erma Moser and Rachel (Rich) Leman, both of Roanoke, Gladys (Dick) Haefli, Peoria and Dorothy (Charles) Leman, Farmington Hills, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Harlow Blunier, Edward Blunier and Gaylord Blunier, and six sisters, Mildred Hoerr, Ann Sauder, Merna Koch, Phyllis Schacherbauer, Melba Hangartner and Mary Lou Grimm.
Always giving of herself, Mardell volunteered for AC World Relief and the AC Home of Roanoke. She was a member of the Roanoke AC Church, rural Roanoke. Mardell loved china painting and crafting and put these talents to use for many years at the AC Home’s fundraising bazaar. The couple loved spending time with family and enjoyed working on the family farm and gardening. She had her pilot’s license and enjoyed her many travel adventures with her husband and the family throughout the years.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church with ministers of the church officiating. Visitation will take place Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home, Roanoke, and Saturday morning from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
