EUREKA – Ruth Marie Dick, 103, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at The Loft in Eureka.
She was born Jan. 4, 1916, in Metamora, the daughter of Samuel and Emma Drange Smith. She married Henry Dick on Aug. 30, 1941, in Eureka. He died in December 2000.
Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn (David) Emmert, Bloomington, Ind., Nancy Harms, Toulouse, France, and Deborah (David) Friesen, Charlotte, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Matt Emmert, Anne Krouse, Gwen Mills, Derek Mills, David Friesen, Matthew Friesen and Emilie Spillman and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Stephen Dick, one brother Raymond Smith, and four sisters, Edna Hinkle, Esther Schlabach, Ferne Umble and Beulah Smith.
Ruth graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Peoria. She worked as a nurse in Peoria, as well as 13 years as a school nurse in Eureka District No. 140. Ruth was a lifelong member of Metamora Mennonite Church, Metamora.
Services will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the church with the Rev. John Byler officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded after the service. Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Eureka, is in charge of the arrangements.
