ROANOKE – Dr. Steven R. Eckhoff, 65, died at 10:02 a.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2019, in Sun City West, Ariz.
He was born June 16, 1953, in Pontiac, the son of Marvin and Patricia Stromberger Eckhoff. He married Donna Mae Bennett on Nov. 3, 1979, in Wheaton. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Johnny (Mary Cruz) Eckhoff, Rantoul and Jeremee Eckhoff, Urbana and three sisters, Marge (Steve) Kasten, Hoyleton, Jeanne Brennan, Lowpoint and DeAnn (John) Heck, Moweaqua.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother-in-law, Len Brennan.
Steve graduated from Roanoke-Benson High School, obtained a bachelor’s degree in physics from Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington, as well as a master’s degree and doctorate from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., in agricultural engineering. He was a professor of agricultural and biological engineering at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, for 24 years.
Services will be held June 22 at 11 a.m. at Windsor Road Christian Church, Champaign. Burial will take place in the St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Benson, at a later date. Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Minonk is in charge of the arrangements.
