EUREKA - At the very worst, Eureka can get a piece of the Heart of Illinois Conference title. They earned a portion of it Tuesday with a 25-12, 25-20 triumph over Tremont.
Hailey Flowers, one of nine seniors who played their final home match, registered 10 kills for the Hornets (26-3, 11-0). Eureka bolstered their league win streak to 37 in a row and home one to 26.
“This group has been together for many years. They’re a very close group of girls. Our home crowds have been amazing. It’s been a testament to them and the hard work they’ve put in since the first day they stepped onto the court," commented Eureka coach Tracy Heffren.
Paige McAllister had three kills for the Turks (6-17, 3-8), who have dropped 17 of their last 21 since a 2-0 start.
Notes: The other seniors include Lauren Ausmus, Courtney Heffren, Morgan Kieser, Katie Morin, Alison Nohl, Amy Pineda, Drew Rokey and Katie Underwood. A victory Thursday over host Ridgeview in Colfax would wrap up a third consecutive HOIC championship. Flowers' career kill total sits at 966.
