ANNAWAN - Despite getting more of a battle than they expected, Roanoke-Benson eliminated Henry 51-43 Tuesday night in regional action.
The Rockets (18-12) did not take the lead until 32-30 midway through the third quarter.
“It was not pretty, but high school kids, college kids, they’re only human,” said R-B coach Abe Zeller, whose team fell behind 6-0 at the outset. “We found a way to get ‘er down. But, as the saying goes survive and advance.”
Junior Jack Weber led the Rockets with a game-best 17 points, while the Mallards (6-23) received 14 from Ethan Condit.
R-B meets the host Braves in Wednesday's 7:30 p.m. semifinal. In the opening game, set for a 6 p.m. tip, Ridgewood takes on the Flying Geese of Kewanee Wethersfield (26-2). The winners collide at 7 p.m. Friday in the title tilt.
Notes: Jake Weber had 15 points, which gives him 1,077 for his career. The output moved him past Stan Aeschleman and Steve Kirby into the ninth spot on the program's all-time scoring list. R-B had defeated Henry 77-44 and 63-22 in the two regular season encounters.
