Heffren to take over at ICC: Tracy Heffren has resigned as volleyball coach at Eureka to take the same post at Illinois Central College in East Peoria. That was made official on Friday. She played for the Cougars in 1987 and '88 before she finished up her career at Illinois State. Heffren replaces Sue Sinclair, who compiled an 826-166 record over 28 years at ICC. She led the Cougars to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) tournament 18 times, highlighted by a title in 2009. Sinclair was inducted into the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Hall of Fame this past December. She will also retire from her gig as athletic director, effective June 30. Heffren posted a 216-121 record over 10 seasons at her alma mater. She guided the Hornets to three consecutive supersectional appearances and the ’16 two A title. Since Eureka joined the Heart of Illinois Conference, they have recorded a perfect 38-0 record. Her daughter, Courtney Heffren, will suit up for ICC in the fall.
