BLOOMINGTON — Prairie Fire Theatre has announced its 2019 season under the artistic direction of Robert Mangialardi.

The season opens with a Champagne gala beginning at 7:30 p.m. April 27 at Memorial Center (Young Lounge), Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington. Doors open at 7 p.m. The evening will feature songs and music from Broadway, film and opera. Tickets include hors d’oeuvres, beverages, raffle prizes and more.
The children's opera "How to be a Superhero," with book and lyrics by Nancy Steele Brokaw, will be May 1-31. The opera tour will visit as many as 50 elementary schools and other venues, including libraries, churches and the Normal Theater. "Gypsy" will be performed June 13-16 in Westbrook Auditorium, Presser Hall, IWU. The musical is loosely based on the 1957 memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, the famous striptease artist, and focuses on her mother, Rose. Songs include "Everything's Coming up Roses," "Together (Wherever We Go)" and "Let Me Entertain You."
"H.M.S. Pinafore" will be Aug. 1-4 at Westbrook Auditorium, Presser Hall, IWU. The operetta is a nautically tinged story of star-crossed lovers.
