U High play

NORMAL —  University High School will present "The Addams Family" for this year's spring musical Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Ruth Stroud Auditorium at the school.

Leads are senior Josh Kuhn as Gomez; junior Ryann Piker, Morticia; freshman Alyssa Pacheco, Wednesday; and sophomore Joseph Dubravec, Lucas.

Shows are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday and tickets are available at the door for $12 or online at stroud.ticketleap.com for $10. Further discounts are available for seniors and students.

IWU Opera Theatre

BLOOMINGTON — Illinois Wesleyan University’s Opera Theatre will present a Broadway musical revue at 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday in Westbrook Auditorium on campus.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The production, under the direction of Robert Mangialardi, will highlight music by composer David Shire and lyricist Richard Maltby Jr., collaborators on such Tony-nominated Broadway shows "Baby" and "Big."

Bloom winners

NORMAL — Winners of the 15th annual Spring Bloom Arts Festival in Illinois State University's Bone Student Center Brown Ballroom have been announced.

The juried art fair, held March 17, was coordinated by the McLean County Arts Center and juried by Megan Kathol Bersett and Mark Genrich.

Placing were: best in show, Matthew Holt, Silver Lake, Wis.; first-place fine craft, Neil Estrick, Grayslake; first-place fine art, Don Widmer, Chicago; second-place fine craft, Sara Lenart, Chicago; and second-place fine art, Bekki Canine, Lafayette, Ind.

Autism-themed show

PONTIAC — "Discover Autism" is the April show in Joe Bailey Gallery at the Pontiac Community Art Center, 209 W. Madison St., Pontiac

The exhibit opens with a reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, and features works in various media by five artists from Kankakee's Merchant Street Art Gallery of Artists with Autism, one of only three galleries in the U.S. exclusively for autistic artists.

During Saturday's reception, each artist will take a few minutes to talk about his or her work. The exhibit will remain on view through April 30.

MUSIC

Wind Ensemble

BLOOMINGTON — Illinois Wesleyan University's Wind Ensemble will present its final concert of the semester at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Second Presbyterian Church, 404 N. Prairie St., Bloomington.

Featured in the free performance will be soloist Shireen Hassan, winner of IWU's  2018 Wind Ensemble Concerto Competition, an annual competition for a current ensemble member.

She will perform Paul Creston's Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Band. Also on the bill are works by Walter Piston, Frank Ticheli and Leonard Bernstein.

Composer-pianist

BLOOMINGTON — Composer, pianist and accordionist Chris Reyman will perform improvisations with six Illinois Wesleyan University music students in a free recital at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Westbrook Auditorium on campus.

Reyman's work as a pianist and accordionist has been featured in several CDs, while his composing credits include soundtrack scores for such award-winning short films as "The Ocean Maker" and "Undocumented Freedom."

He is also a member of KOAN, an improvisational ensemble that integrates music and dance, and is co-founder of in2improv, an organization that uses improvisation and performance arts to develop creativity in marginalized communities.
