BLOOMINGTON — The Miller Park Zoological Society and the Bloomington- Normal Jaycees will host the annual Brews at the Zoo on Friday, with proceeds set to help purchase an X-ray machine.
The event, from 5 to 8 p.m., is for adults 21 years of age and older. They'll be able to sample craft beers from eight local and regional breweries and food from Twin City restaurants. There also will be animal viewings, zookeeper talks and a home brewing presentation.
Breweries taking part include: White Oak Brewery, Destihl Brewery, Lil Beaver Brewing, Keg Grove Brewing, Bearded Owl Brewing, J.T. Walker’s Brewery, Revolution Brewing and Buzz Bomb Brewing. Two wine stations also will be available.
“We are excited to be brewin’ new flavors and new fun for 2019 Brews at the Zoo,” said Paula Pratt, of the Miller Park Zoological Society. “Brews has become a community event with significant impact for Miller Park Zoo. Partnering with the Bloomington-Normal Jaycees and hosting an event at the zoo is a great combination."
Tickets are available on Eventbrite, or at the event. Proceeds will benefit the purchase of an X-ray machine for Miller Park Zoo, 1020 S. Morris Ave.
Currently, the zoo doesn't have an X-ray machine, requiring that animals be transported off site. Having the equipment at the zoo will allow zookeepers to develop accurate and timely treatment strategies, while reducing the stress on animals because they'd stay at the zoo. Officials also said the machine would "significantly reduce" veterinary costs.
