He talk pretty one day soon: Humorist/author/NPR house fixture David Sedaris is no stranger to Central Illinois, having logged a nearly annual appearance close by over the past decade, be it B-N, Peoria or, as in this year's case, Champaign-Urbana … specifically Champaign's downtown Virginia Theater, where he'll headline “An Evening with David Sedaris,” at 7 p.m. April 26. Tickets are priced from $42.50 to $55 via the Virginia box office at 217-356-9063. Expect to hear from Dave's latest bestselling essays collection, 2013's “Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls.”
Jukebox heroics: Another big show headed Virginny-way this spring may not feel like the first time, but it will be a fine one for classic rock rock fans … long-runners Foreigner, who, like David Sedaris (see above), are no strangers to Central Illinois venues, having passed through numerous times in recent years. This time, it's 7:30 p.m. March 29 at the Virginia Theater in Champaign, with tickets priced from $59.50 to $99.50, via the venue's box office (see number above).
Castle stormers: Several new additions to the winter slate of the Castle Theatre to report, including Grind: A Tribute to Alice in Chains, 8 p.m. Jan. 24 ($10-$15) and a back-by-popular-demand gig for Steve's boy, Justin Townes Earle, with opener Gill Landry, 7:30 p.m. March 11 ($20-$23). In addition, the previously announced Valentine's Night (Feb. 14) show with Martin Sexton has added a familiar face as opener, singer-songwriter Peter Mulvey, late of IWU's Blue Moon Coffeehouse heyday. Tickets are $25-$30. Call 309-820-0352.
