GIBSON CITY — Recently-elected State Rep. Tom Bennett, R-Gibson City, announced on Monday that he will resign his current position as trustee and chairman of the Parkland College Board to devote his time to his new House duties.
The resignation is effective Jan. 22.
In a statement, Bennett said it's been a "great honor and privilege to serve on the Parkland College Board for the past 19 years. I am very proud of the progress we have made for students, especially in the areas of access and achievement, and I have enjoyed working over the years with so many dedicated and talented board members, administrators and educators."
He added that, "Making the decision to step down was not easy, but it is the right thing to do."
Bennett was elected in November to succeed Josh Harms as state representative for the 106th House District. He will be sworn-in and assume his new duties later this month.
