SIBLEY-Howard “Ed” Eagleson, 67, of Sibley passed away at 1:30 a.m. on Friday, November 1, 2013 at the Gibson Area Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5 at the Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City with full military rites by the Sibley American Legion. Visitation will be from to 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Sibley.

Ed was born on April 18, 1946 in Gainesville, Fla., a son to Howard and Helen (Bowman) Eagleson. He married Kathy Goembel on December 23, 1972 in Sibley. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Timothy and Peter of Sibley; a brother, Will (Lynn) Eagleson of Reading, Pa.; a sister Jean Sibley of Santa Fe, N.M.; his mother-in-law, Patricia Goembel; his brother-in-law, David Goembel; three sisters-in-laws, Betty Goembel, Patricia Wilson, and Debra (John) Ward; and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, and his father-in-law.

Ed graduated from I.S.U. with a political science degree. He was in the Navy from 1966 to 1970 and served as a Vietnamese linguist. Ed worked at the Farmers Merchants National Bank in Melvin from 1979 to 2011. He was assistant vice president when he retired.

He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Sullivant Township Board, adjunct of Sibley American Legion, and was a mentor in the GCMS School District for the past three years. Ed was also active in the Melvin VFW and Sibley Lions Club before their dissolution. Ed was an avid reader and sports fan.

Memorials may be made to the Melvin Public Library, Moyer District Library, Gibson City Methodist Church, or the Gibson City Lions Club.
