Local soldier earns Army's Bronze Star
BLOOMINGTON - Illinois Army National Guard Capt. John Fulk of Bloomington has received a Bronze Star for his work to establish a rural health care initiative in Iraq.
Fulk was among three soldiers honored Saturday during the annual ball of 2nd Battalion, 130th Infantry.
The Guard said the initiative "not only cultivated friendly relations with indigenous tribes … while at the same time improving the health of local families." Fulk, given sole credit for establishing the initiative, was a physician assistant.
The unit was initially trained in 2005 at Fort Stewart, Ga.
