Humane society gets dogs from Mississippi
BLOOMINGTON - The Humane Society of Central Illinois has accepted 28 dogs transferred from a shelter in Jackson, Miss., which provided health care, socialization and personality details on each dog.
The humane society, 3001 Gill St., has 20 dogs and 40 cats available for adoption, including seven dogs and seven cats from the first hurricane rescue. More will be available for adoption next week.
Those wishing to adopt are encouraged to stop by the Pet Adoption Center and complete an application. Adoption staff will review applications and recommend pets to prospective adopters.
Volunteers are asked to help with laundry, cleaning and dog walks. Orientation for new volunteers will be Jan. 7 and 11.
Financial and supply donations are welcome. Needed items are Iams food, laundry detergent and bleach. Call (309) 664-7387.
Public workers will haul holiday trees
BLOOMINGTON " Christmas trees in Bloomington will be picked up by the city's Public Service Department along with regular brush and bulk waste. There is no set date for collection.
Trees must be placed at the curb with all decorations removed. They can't be in plastic bags.
Trash pickup set Monday in Normal
NORMAL - Garbage collection will take place on Monday with no change in the collection schedule if Monday is your regular collection day.
Christmas trees will be collected by the brush crews. Place trees without metal objects or plastic bags at the curb.
Man, 38, arrested after man is stabbed
TOLUCA - A Streator man was stabbed and a Toluca man arrested after a fight last week.
Matt Dunning, 23, was stabbed several times during the fight, according to the Marshall County sheriff's department. He was treated and released from St. Mary's Hospital in Streator.
Joseph Mistekevic, 38, was free on bond after he was charged with aggravated battery and resisting arrest in the Dec. 22 incident.
