CLINTON - Wanted: development ideas for 80 acres of prime lakefront property situated south of the Clinton Lake Marina.
The DeWitt County Board's marina committee decided Monday that the first step in developing the property is a brochure with information and maps of the land. The site was donated to the county several years ago along with the adjacent marina by AmerGen Energy Co.
"We need plans and ideas from outside this committee," board member Larry Martin said during Monday's discussion.
Committee chairman David Newberg said he has received calls from people who want specific information about the property.
The spectrum of possibilities for a potential development is not limited to any particular type of business or purpose, according to committee members.

"I will listen to anything they bring. I want to hear what they have to say," said member Ed Young.
Any development strategy should focus on what's best for residents of DeWitt County, committee members agreed.
"The whole idea of this is DeWitt County development. We want to maximize the economic returns for the county," said Terry Ferguson, a member of the committee.
The land use also must be compatible with the nearby marina operation.
"We're in the marina business. Whatever happens there has to compliment the marina," said board member Steve Lobb.
Board members will work with the county's economic development committee to put together an information packet on the property for potential developers. It is likely that the committee will be prepared to entertain ideas from developers later this summer, said Newberg.
