City council buys accounting package

When: Nov. 6

Key action: Bought a new accounting and utility billing package. The software, along with conversion of existing data, training and on-site assistance from Civic Systems of Madison, Wis., will cost $37,500.

Other action: Approved a bid of $19,840 from Rowe Construction for concrete gutters on Woodward Street from Ill. Route 54 to just past the fire station.


City OKs bonds, eyes water rate hike

Key action : Approved $205,000 in general bonds for capital improvements and approved a motion to have city attorney draft an ordinance to increase water and sewer rates 4.2 percent.


Village board hears liquor store proposal

Key action : Heard Super Valu wants to combine the liquor and grocery store into one location.

Other action : Learned packets for the April election are available at the village office.


Liquor commission fines Maggie Miley's

Key action : Fined Maggie Miley's, 126 E. Beaufort St., $1,000 for serving alcohol to a minor on Sept. 30.


City pays final bill for blacktop work

Key action : Approved final payment of $65,831.05 to T&T Cartage for blacktopping work done on First, Fourth and Seventh streets.

Other action : Agreed to pay $7,900 of accumulated city employee sick pay; created an ordinance limiting grass height to eight inches; and received a rejection letter from Illinois Department of Transportation regarding creation of a no-passing zone on U.S. 24 near Pittsburgh Tube.


Village ordinances target smoking, dogs

Key action : Approved an ordinance that prohibits minors younger than 18 from possessing tobacco products, effective Nov. 17. The fine is $75 and is increased to $125 if minors are within 250 feet of a school or park when cited.

Other action : Approved an ordinance that prohibits the possession of vicious dogs.


City imposes charge on owners of strays

When : Nov. 6

Key action : Imposed a $100 charge to owners of stray animals picked up and impounded.

Other action : Approved a tax levy of $71,400, up $2,400 from last year. Council member Nancy Salz voted no in the 4-1 decision.


Village OKs pact for police service work

When : Nov. 2

Key action : Approved a $50,940.15 contract with the Livingston County Sheriff's Department to provide police service from Dec. 1, 2006,–;through Nov. 30, 2007.

Other action : Hired Farnsworth Group to provide estimates to resolve drainage issues in the Parkview subdivision.


School board hires assistant ball coach

Key action : Hired Dennis Lowry as assistant high school basketball coach.
