Town wants grant for water meters

Key action: Approved having the Farnsworth Group administer and submit a state grant for water meter replacement. The maximum amount of the grant has been reduced from $400,000 to $350,000, and the project will cost about $585,737.

Other action: Approved installing a spotlight for a flag pole at the corner of Fourth and Maple.

Council OKs levy, buys security system

Key action: Approved a $679,452 property tax levy.

Other action: Approved a $6,386.91 bid for purchase of a City Hall security system and approved policies outlining the personnel chain of command for problem resolution.

Board OKs increase for full-time workers

When: Dec. 20

Key action: Approved a 2 percent increase for all full-time employees.

BLOOMINGTON

Board changes name of emergency agency

Meeting: McLean County Board

When: Dec. 20

Key action: Changed the name of McLean County Emergency Services Disaster Agency to McLean County Emergency Management Agency in accordance with a recommendation from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. The board also agreed to integrate the McLean County Rescue Squad into the McLean County EMA program.

LeROY

New rules prompt sewer agreement

Meeting: City Council

When: Dec. 19

Key action: Approved an agreement with Donahue and Associates of Champaign to help the city come up with a long-term control plan for their combined sewer system. Cost of the study is not to exceed $37,000. City Manager Jeff Clawson said the move was prompted by new regulations and not any deficiency in the local system.

Board OKs levy, hires new coach

Meeting: School board

When: Dec. 19

Key action: Approved a tax levy of $3,629,444, which is 4.4 percent higher than the 2004 levy. Although the levy is higher due to increasing land values, school officials estimate the tax rate will drop from $5.20 to $5.15 per $100 EAV.

Other action: Hired Sandra Kelley as junior high school volleyball coach.

DOWNS

Tri-Valley names middle school chief

Meeting: Tri-Valley school board

When: Dec. 19

Key action: Offered a contract to Jill Lanier to serve as middle school principal for the 2006-07 school year. Lanier has been interim principal. The board is also narrowing the field of candidates for high school principal to replace Paul Colba, who is retiring.

Other action: Approved a tax levy with an estimated rate of $5.299 per $100 equalized assessed valuation. If that estimate holds true, it will be an 8-cent decrease from last year's levy.

STREATOR

Board OKs rate that's a cent less

Meeting: High school board

When: Dec. 20

Key action: Approved a tax rate that is slightly lower than last year. The $2.90 fee is a penny less than last year. The owner of a $150,000 home will pay $1,451 for the year.

City OKs offices for new TIF area

Meeting: City Council

When: Dec. 21

Key action: Approved First National Bank and Indra Pal's medical office for the proposed downtown Tax Increment Finance district. The council could approve a TIF district as early as May, the first TIF district to include more than one business.
