BLOOMINGTON - Fire damaged a house on Bloomington's west side late Thursday night. Firefighters were called about 11 p.m. to 2809 Rutherford Dr. The fire was confined to a storage area at the back of the garage attached to the house.

Bloomington Fire Captain John Jackson said damage was minimal. "There was a slight smoke haze in the house."

There were no injuries, but it was unclear if the family would be able to stay in the house, he said.

Jackson said the names of the residents are unknown. The cause remained under investigation by firefighters at the scene after midnight.

The fire was knocked out in about five minutes, he said.

Freezing rain fell steadily while firefighters were at the scene; the conditions did not hamper their efforts, Jackson said.

"We had to go slow driving here."

The American Red Cross of the Heartland was contacted to help the family.
