PONTIAC -- A 10-year-old rural Pontiac boy was killed Wednesday when his bicycle was struck by a pickup truck about two miles east of Pontiac, the Livingston County coroner announced Wednesday night.

Bryan Baker died at 6:34 p.m. Wednesday at OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac, Coroner Mike Burke said.

Bryan was riding his bicycle north on Livingston County Road 1900 East with family members when he was struck by an eastbound pickup truck as he crossed Illinois 116, Burke said.

The crash remains under investigation by Burke's office and Illinois State Police.

Illinois State Police, the Pontiac Fire Department and Duffy Ambulance responded to the accident scene.

Pastors and counselors are being made available to students and staff at Washington Elementary School in Pontiac, where the 10-year-old attended, and at Pontiac Junior High.

Pontiac District 429 Superintendent Steve Graham is at the elementary school Thursday offering support.
