HOPEDALE — Barbara Rae Phillips, 78, of Hopedale, died Friday (May 10, 2019) at Hopedale Medical Complex.
She was born April 30, 1941, in Bloomington, to Raymond and Myrtle Sosamon Schmidgall. She married Robert “Bob” Phillips on Oct. 3, 1959, in Normal, and he survives.
Also surviving are one sister, Joanne Schmidgall, Hopedale; six brothers, Dwayne (Tamra) Schmidgall, rural Hopedale; Ray (Barbara) Schmidgall, Mason, Mich.; Melvin (Jackie) Schmidgall, Minier; Warren (Mary) Schmidgall, Topeka, Kan.; Keith (Lori) Schmidgall, Mackinaw; and Les (Angie) Schmidgall, rural Armington; 25 nieces and nephews; 67 great-nieces and -nephews; and one great-great-nephew, all of whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by a precious child, Bobbi Rae, born to her and Bob on May 18, 1964. Bobbi died a few hours later. She was also preceded in death by her mother and father.
Barb worked at Hopedale Agri Center for 32 years, where she served as manager and in various other positions. Following retirement, she managed Schmidgall Trucking Inc., until she was no longer physically able.
She was an avid Cubs fan since childhood and had the great pleasure of witnessing the Cubs win the World Series in 2016. Her hobby was her pets, and over the years, she had many, large and small. In her later years, the pets were smaller, and the squirrels and birds in her neighborhood were the best fed in Hopedale.
Most importantly, she loved Jesus.
She was a member of Minier Assembly of God Church, where her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday. Pastors Frank Brozenec and Ron Marsiglio will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday also at the church. Burial will be in Hittle Grove Cemetery, rural Armington, next to Barb's childhood home. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home, Hopedale, is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hopedale Fire & Rescue, Hopedale. Their voluntary service to Barb and our family will never be forgotten.
