NORMAL — Anthony J. Valone, 87, of Normal, passed away at 4:07 a.m. Monday (Nov. 18, 2019) at OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, the Community Cancer Center or Epiphany Catholic Church. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born June 10, 1932, in Chicago, a son of Frank and Lucia Luccessi Valone. He married Arlene T. Walinski on Oct. 24, 1959, in Downers Grove, and she survives in Normal.
Also surviving are four children, Julie (Mike) Johnson, Bloomington; Nancy (Bill) Overstreet, Bend, Ore.; Tom (Joy) Valone, Boynton Beach, Fla.; and Andrea (Eric) French, Bloomington; five grandchildren, Anne (Luke) Nicholl, Kaitlyn Johnson, and Keller French, Beren French and Everly French; and two great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Wyatt Nicholl.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tony Valone Jr., and a brother, Vito Valone.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country in Korea. He was a 46-year employee of Country Financial, retiring from the Controller's Division. He was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, the VFW, the American Legion, and was a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as past faithful navigator and controller. He was also a member of the Central Catholic High School board and the McLean County Antique Car Club. A strong supporter of his children's activities, he was actively involved in Boy Scouts, Indian Guides, Indian Princesses and spent many hours shuttling children to baseball, football and cheer. In retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling. He was an avid and talented photographer. He was a proud grandpa and treasured the time he spent with his grandkids.
