NORMAL — Carolyn Anna Kuntz, 83, of Normal, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 16, 2019) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal. She was surrounded by family.
A Mass to celebrate her life will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bloomington, with the Rev. Gregory Nelson officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bloomington. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 527 W. Jackson St., Bloomington, or the charity of the donor's choice. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Carolyn was born Nov. 30, 1935, in Bloomington, daughter of William P. and Anna M. Frisch Schenk. She married Everett Leo Kuntz on June 5, 1954, at St. Mary's Church, Bloomington. He preceded her in death on June 15, 2018, in Normal, after 64 years of marriage.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Kuntz; daughter-in-law, Karen Kuntz; son-in-law, Tim Raube; two granddaughters, Amy and Mary Grace Kuntz; one sister, Leona Norton; two brothers, William Schenk and Edgar Schenk; five sisters-in-law, Rose Schenk, Dorothy Kuntz, Loretta Carter, Pat Stone, Shirley Kuntz; and five brothers-in-law, Leo Carter, Russell Kuntz, W.E. Stone, Donald Kuntz and Robert Norton.
She is survived by three sons, Joseph (Diana) Kuntz, Batavia; John (Peg) Kuntz, Bloomington; and James (Mark Earle) Kuntz, Owensboro, Ky.; five daughters, Marie (Terry) Dawson, Carlock; Cheryl Kuntz, Peoria Heights; Martha Raube, Camdenton, Mo.; Theresa (Mark) Kotte, Hudson; and Barbara (Ken) Reece, Fernandina Beach, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Michelle Kuntz, San Diego, Calif.; and Sandra (Alan) Fedden, Hudson, who was loved as a daughter. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, Samantha (Jonathan) Fuchs; Jen (Lynn Hernbrott) Dawson; Nikki (Stacy Hinshaw) Dizon; Robin (Brian) Fisher; Angela (Brian) DeJaynes; Ashley Kuntz; Dillon (Taylor Joy) Raube; Kristin (Shane) Handley; Michele Kotte; Lynne Kotte; Jessica Reece; Jake (Elizabeth) Reece; Allie (Andy) Mlyniec; Andrew, Robby and Maggie Kuntz; James Nemecek; Katie (Ethan) Glasford; and Lindsey Green; 27 great-grandchildren, Alexander and Anderson Fuchs; Alexa, Keaton and Sienna Fisher; Ana, Roman, Grant and Jackson DeJaynes; Blake and Avryl Raube; Addison, Cooper, Aribelle and Connor Handley; Gabriella and Aiden Reece; River Reece; Addalyn, Emily and Weston Glasford; Graham, Bennett and Charlotte Mlyniec; Taylor Pichon; Angelica and Michael Green; her brother, Wilbur (Helen) Schenk; two brothers-in-law, Louis (Beverly) Kuntz, Roswell, Ga., and Albert Kuntz, Quincy; her sister-in-law, Letty Schenk; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a 1953 graduate of Trinity High School in Bloomington and attended Illinois State Normal University in Normal. Carolyn first worked at Kresge's 5 & 10 Store, Eureka Williams Corp. and State Farm Insurance Co.. She helped her husband farm in the Bloomington-Normal area from the time of their marriage in 1954 until 1970. She, alongside her husband, Everett, operated Dairy Queen in Bloomington from 1973 to 1975, and from 1975 to 1979 they owned and operated Dairy Delight in Bloomington, while she was concurrently operating Dairy Queen in Normal from 1976 to 1978. From 1979 - 1986, she worked as a supervisor at Peoples Bank of Bloomington. In 1986, she began working for the Illinois Secretary of State Drivers Facility, retiring in 1998. After her retirement, she enjoyed working at Community Players box office.
She was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Bloomington, and was also a member of the National Honor Society; St. Ann's Society at St. Mary's Church; Legion of Mary Auxiliary of Epiphany Church; St. Mary's Church and Holy Trinity Church adult choirs; and St. Mary's funeral choir.
Carolyn loved spending time with her large family, genealogy, traveling, singing in choirs, reading, working crossword puzzles and sharing her many other talents.
