CLINTON — Clinton police are investigating the death of a 4-month-old girl.

Clinton Police Chief Ben Lowers said Sunday emergency responders were called to a home in the 400 block of South Jackson Street for an unresponsive infant. The call was received around 8:30 a.m., and the child was pronounced dead a short time later at Warner Hospital and Health Services in Clinton.

"At this point, this is a death investigation and will remain as such until we determine otherwise," said Lowers.

The Illinois State Police and DeWitt County coroner's officers are assisting Clinton police. No arrests have been made in connection with the death, said Lowers.

Authorities have not released the child's name.

The police chief said additional information will be available after an autopsy and toxicology tests are completed.
