NORMAL — Members of the public are invited to the first public meeting of the newly-formed Connect to the Future working group to gather input on the future and possible direction of Connect Transit.
The group will meet Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Normal Public Library Community Room.
The Connect Transit Board approved the working group last month. The group is a collection of community representatives to help define the type of public transit system the community desires, according to a statement by the board.
The group is expected to present an informed understanding of the evolution of public transportation in Bloomington-Normal to where Connect Transit stands today — core guiding principles, ridership, financial realities and possibilities, and to present recommendations for the future. Those would include strategies for the platform’s financial viability and sustainment.
Connect Transit Board of Trustee Judy Buchanan, chairwoman of the Connect to the Future working group, said the public is invited to the meeting, to ensure the working group is representative of the community.
The group is expected to meet at least once a month for at least six months.
