PONTIAC — Authorities have identified the woman killed early Monday after she was struck by a Pontiac Police Department squad car.
Rita M. Murphy, 55, of Pontiac, died of injuries "consistent with a person being hit by a vehicle," according to a statement issued Tuesday morning by Livingston County Coroner Danny Watson.
The accident occurred at 1:10 a.m. Monday on Route 66, about 200 feet north of North Howard Street, said the police department. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Murphy and her husband, John, have two children. She had been a legal secretary for a Pontiac law firm.
The police department has released no other details of the incident.
The Illinois State Police is handling the crash investigation. The officer involved is currently on "non-disciplinary, paid administrative leave," according to the department.
The officer has not been identified.
