BLOOMINGTON — A 50-year-old Danville man pleaded guilty Wednesday to soliciting a LeRoy girl for sex in social media messages the two exchanged in September.

Edward Harper was charged in October with indecent solicitation of a child after the mother of an 11-year-old LeRoy girl reported to police messages she found on her daughter's Facebook messaging page.

According to Assistant State's Attorney Erika Reynolds, the messages included an admission by the girl that she was a minor and Harper's solicitation of sex from the girl.

Judge Scott Drazewski agreed with the plea agreement, subject to Harper's completion of a sex offender's evaluation before a May 29 sentencing hearing, and compliance with the terms of his release on a $100,000 personal recognizance bond.

Harper will be placed on 30 months probation and must complete recommended sex offender treatment. A second count of indecent solicitation of a child will be dismissed under the plea agreement.

With credit for his time in custody, Harper has served the required 90 days of a 180-day jail sentence.

Defense attorney Jennifer Patton asked that the plea agreement exclude Harper's son from a provision banning him from contact with children under 18. Drazewski agreed.

Harper will be required to register for life as a sex offender.
