BLOOMINGTON — Criminal charges are pending against two men who police think used a stolen handgun to hold up Cigarette Express on the city's east side.
The men, who allegedly used a gun reported missing after a residential burglary last year, were found after police received reports of men selling cigarettes at a nearby apartment complex, police said Tuesday.
A Rockford man, 24, and a Bloomington man, 26, both face a preliminary charge of armed robbery. The Pantagraph does not name suspects in such cases until they've been formally charged in court.
The robbery occurred at 9:02 p.m. Monday at the store at 502 N. Prospect Road.
A witness said two men entered the store and one displayed a handgun. They took an undisclosed amount of money and several cartons of cigarettes before running away, police said.
Police found the suspects after someone reported men selling cigarettes at an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Gettysburg Drive.
The TEC-9 handgun was reported stolen last year.
