Autopsy today in Farmer City death

FARMER CITY — An autopsy is scheduled for today on a rural Farmer City man found dead in downtown Farmer City on Saturday morning.

DeWitt County Sheriff Jered Shofner said the body of Blayne J. Benefield, 21, was discovered at 7:16 a.m. in an alley in the 200 block of South Main Street. Details about how the man died have not yet been released. The Heritage Days Festival in Farmer City was not interrupted.

Court appearance

A man was taken into custody at about 11 a.m. Saturday morning. His name was not released, but he is expected in court today.

The investigation by the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Department, Farmer City police, Illinois State Police and the DeWitt County coroner’s office, is continuing, Shofner said.
