BLOOMINGTON — A 25-year-old Bloomington man will be sentenced July 8 after he pleaded guilty Monday in McLean County Circuit Court to a charge of aggravated driving under the influence involving a death.

Brenton Fenwick of the 1600 block of Gamma Street has been in jail since his arrest in May 2018.

According to authorities, Fenwick denied he had been drinking when questioned by police at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center after the crash that claimed the life of Dylan Baerwald, 25, a passenger in the vehicle.

An investigation by the McLean County Sheriff's Department showed Fenwick was traveling at high speed and his car became airborne at one point before landing and striking a tree, said authorities.

Fenwick told police he swerved to miss another car, causing him to lose control at McLean County roads 1000 East and 1400 North, about a quarter mile south of Illinois 9.

The Fenwick vehicle was traveling south on 1000 East when it failed to stop at Illinois 9, said authorities.

The McLean County state's attorney's office said at the time that Fenwick's blood alcohol level was 0.043, according to tests performed two hours after the crash. The legal limit is 0.08.
