BLOOMINGTON — A Bloomington police vehicle was struck Thursday afternoon as three people fled a retail theft, police said.

About 1:40 p.m., a vehicle in the area of Streid Drive and Ireland Grove Road struck a civilian vehicle and a squad car after officers attempted to make a traffic stop, said police spokesman John Fermon.

The driver, Darien Davis, 21 of Bloomington, is charged with aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.

According to court documents, he is accused of refusing to pull over for the traffic stop and attempting to speed away. His alleged attempt caused him to crash into the other vehicles, causing damage to the police vehicle in excess of $300.

Davis was jailed in lieu of posting $20,035.

One of the passengers, Drashan Jackson, 21, of Bloomington, is charged with retail theft. He is accused of allegedly taking a firearm rail-mounted laser from Smiley’s Sports Shop, 2049 Ireland Grove.

He was jailed in lieu of posting $3,035.

Another passenger was arrested with an active warrant.
