CLINTON — A DeWitt County woman accused of animal abuse failed to appear in court Wednesday for a scheduled court appearance.

“A warrant has been issued for her arrest and so we will deal with it once she gets picked up,” said DeWitt County State’s Attorney Dan Markwell.

Animal abuse charges were filed last month against Ashlee Kemplin, 25, after a video that allegedly shows her abusing a dog surfaced. The DeWitt County Sheriff’s Department investigated and a charge of cruelty to animals was filed on Aug. 13.

DeWitt County Sheriff Jared Shofner previously said the dog was transferred to an unnamed animal adoption agency and was expected to be placed in a new home.

The charge is a misdemeanor.
