BLOOMINGTON — A Bloomington man who has worked as a volunteer soccer coach faces predatory criminal sexual assault charges.
Cristian Aranda, 40, of the 2500 block of Clearwater Avenue is accused of predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor.
He was jailed in lieu of posting $50,025.
Assistant State's Attorney Adam Ghrist said the charges relate to two minors who were acquainted with the suspect, but the charges have nothing to do with Aranda's volunteer coaching position with Normal Community West High's soccer team.
NCWHS athletic director Stan Lewis confirmed Thursday that Aranda is no longer a volunteer coach. The suspect also previously was a coach for the Illinois Fusion traveling soccer team, but his name has been removed from the organization's website.
