Police are searching for this man, James Snow, 29, who escaped Tuesday morning from custody.

BLOOMINGTON — The search continues for a man who escaped in handcuffs while being arrested by officers from the Illinois Department of Corrections earlier this week.

James Snow, 29, escaped late Tuesday morning from officers in the area of Cardinal Ridge Trailer Park on Bloomington’s south side. Officers from the Bloomington Police Department joined the search, but as of Wednesday evening, Snow remained at large.

Snow, 29, is described as being 6 feet tall and weighing 180 pounds. He has brown hair and was wearing a white shirt, gray pants and no shoes when he escaped.

Bloomington police confirmed they assisted with the search and directed questions to the IDOC. An IDOC spokeswoman did not return messages seeking comment on Wednesday.

Snow was released from prison on April 10 and there was an active warrant for his arrest, but the details of why IDOC was arresting him Tuesday morning — and how he got away — were not released.

Snow has a previous felony conviction for escape in McLean County. Prosecutors said he escaped from custody while at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, where he was being treated for ingesting an unknown substance during his arrest.

He also has McLean County convictions for residential burglary, theft and drug charges.

Court documents indicate his mother, Tammy, lives in the Cardinal Ridge Trailer Park area. He is the son of Jamie Snow, a former Bloomington resident who was convicted in the 1991 murder of a gas station attendant during an armed robbery at the Clark Super 100 Station, 802 E. Empire St., Bloomington.

Police are asking that if anyone sees Snow, to immediately call 911.
