SPRINGFIELD — Formal charges have been filed in McLean County against a Bloomington man in connection with the armed robbery of a Check Into Cash store in Bloomington, and who has a warrant against him for the Jan. 17 robbery of Freedom Oil at 601 S. Main St. in Normal.

The man also faces charges in Springfield for the robbery of a Check into Cash store there.

Police in both cities identified the suspect as Toshiro D. Luttrell, 39, of the 900 block of West Taylor Street in Bloomington.

As of Friday, Bloomington police declined to indicate if Luttrell has a connection to a man nicknamed the “Business Bandit,” who is considered as a suspect in at least seven recent armed robberies in the Twin City area.  

Officers were called at 11:15 a.m. after a man armed with a gun entered and demanded money from an employee. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash and property and left on foot.

In Springfield, a man enter entered the Check Into Cash store at 1754 Wabash Ave., about 3:34 p.m. on Feb. 5. He also showed the employee a gun and demanded money before fleeing.

There were no injuries reported in any of the robberies.

BPD identified Luttrell as a suspect in the Bloomington store robbery, and were able to connect him to the Springfield robbery, said police.

BPD detectives, BPD's Street Crimes Unit, and Springfield police executed a search warrant on Luttrell's residence in Bloomington. During the search, detectives located a stolen firearm, said BPD.

Luttrell was arrested Feb. 6 on a warrant from the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office on charges of armed robbery, aggravated robbery unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and theft over $500.

On Friday, BPD’s Criminal Investigations Division, working with the McLean County State’s Attorney's Office, issued an arrest warrant and charged Luttrell with armed robbery with a firearm, aggravated robbery and robbery.

Luttrell is being held in the Sangamon County Jail in lieu of $50,035.
