URBANA — A Paxton man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for receiving and possessing child pornography.

Chief U.S. District Judge James E. Shadid handed down the prison term Monday to Kenneth W. Slater, 32, who also was ordered to pay restitution totaling $6,000 to two victims.

On July 17, Slater pleaded guilty to both offenses; he was arrested Jan. 16, 2018 in Paxton and indicted by a federal grand jury the following month.

The case, investigated by the FBI and the Bloomington Police Department, was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse that launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
