NORMAL — The name of the pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday night has been released and Normal police say they are investigating a second vehicle and driver that may have been involved.
Vincent V. Shorten, 25, of Normal was pronounced dead about 8:30 p.m. while crossing Veterans Parkway at Fort Jesse Road.
Preliminary autopsy results indicate he died of multiple blunt force injuries. Toxicology is pending.
In their preliminary investigation, Normal police said a second vehicle may have been involved in the accident.
“The pedestrian was stuck initially by a grey minivan traveling North on Veterans Parkway in the farthest eastern lane,” Chief Rick Bleichner wrote in a news release. “Shortly after being struck by the minivan the pedestrian, while lying in the roadway, may have been struck by another vehicle, also traveling northbound in either the center or western most lane.”
In a later communication, Bleichner stated police have identified the vehicle and driver of interest after seeking information through the media, but released no further details. That vehicle had been described as a dark-colored full-size pickup truck; the make and model was unknown.
