DECATUR — An argument over whose turn it was to take out the trash led to a fight breaking out at a Decatur restaurant, said police.

Decatur Police Detective Sgt. Chris Copeland said a 17-year-old male employee of Long John Silver’s, 701 W. Eldorado St., was spat in the face Saturday night by an assistant manager, and then punched in the eye by the female manager’s boyfriend.

Copeland said the employee also said the boyfriend threw a rock or similar object at his car as he was pulling out of the parking lot, and he later discovered the windshield had been cracked.

Copeland said the employee told officers the trouble flared while he was outside the restaurant arguing with the manager who wanted him to take out the trash. “He told her he wasn’t going to take out any more trash because a co-worker hadn’t taken any out,” said Copeland. “So apparently, he was upset about the division of labor.”

The employee said the manager’s boyfriend was sitting outside in a parked car waiting for her and came over and punched him at “pretty much the same time” she'd spit in his face.

The case has been classified as aggravated battery and Copeland said Sunday police would be speaking with the 19-year-old manager and her boyfriend.

A person identified as a manager at Long John Silver’s declined to comment on Sunday.
