BLOOMINGTON — Bloomington police are investigating a gunfire incident in which a boy was shot in the leg Saturday on Douglas Street.
Police were dispatched at 8:17 p.m. to the 800 block of Douglas to investigate a shooting. Officers made contact with four juveniles, including one who was struck in the leg, police said.
He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of what police described as injuries that were not life-threatening.
The victims reported that a male approached them and produced a gun, police said in a news release.
"The suspect reportedly began shooting without provocation before fleeing the area," the statement said. "Officers located evidence of multiple shots being fired, consistent with victim statements."
Police released no other details Monday.
There have been 18 confirmed shooting incidents in Bloomington-Normal this year, and 10 people have been killed by gunfire or stabbing. Many of the victims and people arrested in the incidents have been youths.
