Reckless driving — A Bloomington man has been charged with reckless driving and failure to report an accident after police said he struck a Bloomington squad car and fled from a traffic stop in May.

Shomari Givihan, 22, who already was in the McLean County jail in lieu of posting $50,035 on unrelated drug and weapons charges, would have to post an additional $235 for the new charges. Earlier, he had posted $10,035 to be released on a still-pending weapons charge.

He is due in court on July 5.

Prosecutors said Bloomington police Officer Joseph Rizzi was preparing to stop Givihan on May 30 in the 200 block of West Market Street when the defendant sped up and crashed into Rizzi’s squad car. Givihan reportedly sped off on West Madison Street, and officers broke off pursuit because of safety reasons.
